Requirements
Mandatory skills:
• Good English communication skills;
• 1 year + experience on a similar position;
• Good understanding of Linux and Unix systems;
• Working with demanding customers and delivering to tight deadlines;
• Previous experience of communicating with English Language speakers from across the world.
Desirable skills:
• Overview of storage devices and types;
• Knowledge of tape backup systems including dump/restore ufsdump/ufsrestore;
• Awareness of Intel x86 and Sun hardware.
Job description:
This vacancy is for Linux/UNIX technical support engineers to join a dedicated team in Cluj, which will deliver Linux/UNIX system administration for servers located in data centers across Europe. The client is a major UK commercial TV broadcaster.
The position will involve an initial familiarity and training period working alongside experienced staff in the UK, then working as part of a team based in Cluj.
Responsibilities:
• Supporting Linux and some UNIX servers (predominantly Solaris) at operating system level;
• Providing telephone- and email-based incident management services direct to the customer;
• Performing backup and recovery tasks on demand, occasionally during pre-arranged out-of-hours and weekend periods;
• Administering core network monitoring tools, involving configuring server-side scripts;
• Ensure internal documentation and procedures are in place;
• Assist in new server builds and initial operating system level server configuration.
