The vice president of engineering reports to the CTO or CPO and works closely with other functional leaders in the company, including those in finance, sales, and marketing. The vice president of engineering is responsible for all of the company’s product development activities. We practice agile (SCRUM to be more specific) and we develop mainly in Python.
You must have a proven track record of success building, leading and managing a technical team with a strong sense of quality ownership. This job requires strategic thinking and planning to provide leadership and expertise throughout the entire development lifecycle. You will work with a team of demanding, highly motivated software engineers and will be expected to both challenge and be challenged. In order to effectively manage this team, you will have superior leadership skills, experience in managing 20+ people development team, exposure/expertise in Agile development methodology (SCRUM is a plus), and the ability to operate within short release cycles.
The position will be based in Bucharest, Romania.
Main duties include:
• Daily management of objectives, priorities, tradeoffs, risk and performance management of all reporting staff.
• Provide technical leadership, career development, and mentoring to team members
• Assign areas of ownership, ensure engineers have clear priorities and adequate resources
• Communicate status, risks to test complete dates, and offer mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery of all committed projects to cross functional teams
Skills required:
• Ability to lead and mentor heterogeneous engineering teams in complex projects
• Incredible work ethic that thrives in fast paced, dynamic work environment
• Ability to multitask between projects with minimal loss in productivity
• Proven ability and desire to deliver projects on time, on quality
• Able to cope with and thrive in uncertain and changing project requirements
• Ability to motivate people, instill accountability and achieve results
• Agile, proactive, comfortable working with ambiguous specifications and can prioritize on the fly.
• Experience in short release cycles, the full software lifecycle, and have worked on a product that was actually released for public consumption
• Web development experience (good Python and DB skills are a BIG plus)
