Role:
This position is a senior operational role in which the individual will function as a subject matter expert in all aspects of Cisco networking, load balancing and firewall troubleshooting. The individual in this role will be expected to routinely resolve complex network and telecom related issues with very limited support from senior engineers. Scope and function will span multiple network and telecom related issues and the individual in this role must have extensive hands-on experience and thorough understanding of component interaction.
Responsibilities:
- Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines;
- Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity;
- Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results;
- Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives;
- Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related fields;
- 5+ years of equivalent work experience;
- Detailed understanding of MPLS services or related hardware;
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting BGP (routing, pre-fix lists, AS prep end, etc.);
- Advanced operational experience using Cisco IOS CLI;
- Extensive experience administering and configuring firewalls (ASA and/or PIX);
- Comfortable working tickets and outages, escalations (common issues are slow response to servers, routing filters, firewall issues, etc.)
- Extensive experience with network monitoring and capacity planning tools. Ability to analyze data and present metrics associated with utilization, capacity and functional operation of the network and telecom infrastructure;
- Ability to comprehend and create complex network maps and drawings in standard design tools (i.e. Visio);
- Advanced detailed understanding of MPLS service and associated configurations;
- DNS administration and Architecture;
- Detailed understanding of IP addressing;
- Scripting knowledge;
- Fluent in English.
